Only in Nigeria you give guns and keys to Arsenal to a people, and still owe them salary – Officers say, as experts call for speedy payment of Police Salary + IGP MEMO
The Nigerian Police Authority has given reasons the November Salary of the Force is delayed, a situation that has subjected about 371,800 officers and their families to harsh economy.
In a Police Wireless Message from the Force Headquarters, which was exclusively obtained by Platforms Africa, the Force declared that the delay in payment of the salary was caused by “delay in processing of funds by the Federal Ministry of Finance.”
Platforms Africa reports that the Wirwless Message popularly called signal, titlled: “Salary Arrangement,” with number CV/3940/PB/FHQ/ABJ/VOL 45/8 and sent to all the Police formation across the country, noted that the Inspector General of Police (INGENPOL) “appreciates the sacrifice and dedication of personnel of the force.”

The memo reads in part: “Information received from IPPIS unit of the OAGF indicates delay in processing of funds from the federal ministry of finance for payment of November 2021 Salaries, which implies that there will be delay in the payment of November 2021 Salary.
“The Inspector General of Police (INGENPOL) “appreciates the sacrifice and dedication of personnel of the force. He (IG) is therefore making frantic efforts to ensure that the delay is minimized.

And for Assistant Inspector General of Police in the zones, the commissioners of Police, the “Inspector General of Police directs you to make it a subject of lecture to officers and men. Treat as urgent and very important.”
Police officers in Nigeria are not expected by the authorities to make their grouses public, however, some of them who craved anonymity told Platforms Africa that the delay in payment of their salary has begun to weigh in heavily on their finances.
“For all Police officers in Nigeria, today is the 40th day of November because November has gone beyond 30 days and added 10 days for all us. Only in Nigeria will you give people guns and keys to other Arsenal, and still owe them salary,” one of the officers said.
“This is a tough time for us. Note that we are at the end of the year when prices of things usually go up. Our debts have kept accumulating. How has the Police gone wrong in this harsh economy, our personnel buy from same market, pay same utility bill, we pay School fees with officers and men of other security agencies that have been paid. What did we do wrong,” a female officer asked in a chat with Platforms Africa.
Meanwhile, security experts have called on the government to effect speedy payment of Police salary.
“This is the peak period for insecurity and no one expects men of the Police Force who are expected to guarantee security at this crirical moment to be owed salary. The implication of this is that it will lower their morale, and may affect the security of lives and properties,” an expert who won’t want his name mentioned because of relationship with the force,” told Platforms Africa.
